Liliana finally met the entiiiiiire family! We went to Puerto Rico for nine days and had a great time. Lili got a bit sick at first (the traveling maybe?), but was happy the entire time. We went to the beach several times and she loved it! This trip was a bit different than most - it's rough with a baby and having to drive from one place to the next. Poor little girl spent a huge chunk of the time in a car seat. She never complained though.
We got back from our trip to Puerto Rico on Christmas Eve...just in time to finish wrapping presents and put them under the tree. Christmas morning Enrique called me and gave me e good news that he had switched shifts with someone and didn't have to go in until 8PM instead of 4. He was able to come and open presents with Lili Bug!
Now we can't wait to go to Orlando and spend some time with my parents and brothers. This trip will be easier since we don't have to drive from one place to the next. Hope every one else's Christmas was wonderful!

Photoshoot with the monkey
I know I'm possibly the worst blogger in the entire universe, but that's what happens when my days are spent having fun with little Liliana. She was very bubbly yesterday, so I sat her in the chair and starting snapping away...

Road trip with a baby
We went to visit some amazing friends get married up in North Carolina this past week. We were a little nervous with taking Lili on her first road trip, but she ended up being amazing! She slept 6 - 6 1/2 hours each night, wasn't fussy, and even allowed us to enjoy ourselves at the rehearsal dinner and wedding ceremony/reception! Feeling so blessed to have such a sweet baby girl....

Bittersweet moments of life
I can't believe Liliana is almost 4 weeks old - she's already changed so much and is getting so big. I'm so in love with her, it's unreal. Enrique and I have had a blast being parents and feel so blessed to have our little angel. She's a great baby - eats a lot, sleeps well, and cracks us up time and time again with her adorable facial expressions. I really can't complain.
On a much sadder note, my grandfather passed away yesterday afternoon. He had been sick for some time now - in and out of the hospital over the past year. This last time was just really bad and he never bounced back. I'm thankful he's in a better place now and not suffering like he was. My heart really just aches for my grandmother who will be left alone in her house. I just can't imagine. I spoke to her this morning and she broke into tears immediately saying she wished he had been able to meet Lili. Me too.

My mother-in-law sent me this picture she took of me and my niece, Isabel. She is growing so fast and continues to be so adorable! We were trying on some headbands I made for her :)

Keeping ourselves occupied
My brothers and parents are all on their way to Toledo, Ohio right now. Gaby has his surgery scheduled for this coming Monday at 1pm with the doctor who developed the procedure he's having done. They'll be removing his top right rib, repairing the damage that was done to the Subclavian vein, and removing any clots that remain. I wish I could be going with them. Heck, I wish I could've been with them from the moment they found out something was wrong. This procedure is supposedly safe, but everyone knows there are always risks when working with major veins/arteries, anesthesia, etc. I guess I'm just nervous. I've got Gaby so close to my heart right now.
Enrique's been trying to keep me busy since Saturday. He's taken me to Oak Mountain State Park, we've gone swimming, walking, been to movies, etc, etc. I love my husband.

As if we weren't already on edge...
My brother, Gaby, drove home from Athens, GA after his last final exam and my dad noticed his right arm was ridiculously swollen and blue. Gab hadn't really noticed the discoloration or swell b/c he was so preoccupied with studying, but he did say it had been feeling "sore." Turned out to be a 5 inch clot in his right arm and he's been in the hospital for a few days trying to get it to dissolve. This morning they found it had finally dissolved and they also found the cause - thank goodness. It's called Venous Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. He was born with the top right rib and clavicle positioned in such a way that it was applying too much pressure to a main vein (the Subclavian) and over time has pretty much ruined it and thinned it out. This is what caused the clotting. He had a temporary angioplasty done this morning and will probably be sent out to Ohio at the end of the week to surgically remove his rib in order to prevent anymore clotting and somehow repair his Subclavian. Apparently this is pretty rare, but he should be ok.
Now it's all about talking non-stop to Lili and pretty much begging her to stay snug until all of this blows over. My mom is so stressed with making sure Gaby's alright and worrying about what's going to happen if I go into labor while he's still not well. Funny how this little girl is already in charge and she isn't even born yet.

4 days to term
Clearly I'm not very good at this whole blog updating thing. I feel like nobody reads it and then someone will randomly be like "did you know you haven't updated since....?" Now that Lindsey has deleted her Facebook, I feel obligated to update here just to keep her up to date on everything.
I went to the doctor this morning for the first of my weekly appointments until this chickadee is born. I had my strep test done - I don't like the feeling of cotton swabbing. Eewy. Got "checked" for the first time this pregnancy and am 2 cm dilated. I was a bit shocked when he told me, as I was just not expecting it. Makes me glad that I'm pretty much ready at the house for this little girl - it was like a wakeup call: THIS IS REAL! I'm excited :)
I'll update later today or tomorrow with pictures of her nursery, my belly, my new house, etc...

Introducing Liliana María Carlo Lugo
After almost two years of trying, we found out we were pregnant a few days after moving to Birmingham, Alabama. We feel so incredibly blessed to be expecting our little girl, Liliana María, at the end of May 2010. We have 18 weeks left until she arrives and can't quite figure out if time seems to be going by slowly or flying past us.
We move into our new house the second week of February. Thank goodness for great family and friends who have offered to help us with the move-in process! Can't wait to start setting up Lili's room!!!
