As if we weren't already on edge...

My brother, Gaby,  drove home from Athens, GA after his last final exam and my dad noticed his right arm was ridiculously swollen and blue.  Gab hadn't really noticed the discoloration or swell b/c he was so preoccupied with studying, but he did say it had been feeling "sore."  Turned out to be a 5 inch clot in his right arm and he's been in the hospital for a few days trying to get it to dissolve.  This morning they found it had finally dissolved and they also found the cause - thank goodness.  It's called Venous Thoracic Outlet Syndrome.  He was born with the top right rib and clavicle positioned in such a way that it was applying too much pressure to a main vein (the Subclavian) and over time has pretty much ruined it and thinned it out.  This is what caused the clotting.  He had a temporary angioplasty done this morning and will probably be sent out to Ohio at the end of the week to surgically remove his rib in order to prevent anymore clotting and somehow repair his Subclavian.   Apparently this is pretty rare, but he should be ok.

Now it's all about talking non-stop to Lili and pretty much begging her to stay snug until all of this blows over.  My mom is so stressed with making sure Gaby's alright and worrying about what's going to happen if I go into labor while he's still not well.  Funny how this little girl is already in charge and she isn't even born yet.

  1. I hope your brother is okay. That sounds really really scary. Thank goodness your Dad saw it! Try not to stress out too much so you don't go into labor. Love ya! P.S. You are positively GLOWING!
